ICONIC ELEGANCE IN A TIMELESS SETTING

  • 47 Rooms, Suites & Villa
  • 2 Restaurants & 3 Bars
  • Beachfront & Private Pools
  • Art, Spa & Organic Garden

Phāea Blue does not perform luxury. It lets it arrive quietly — through the sound of the sea below your terrace, the art above your bed, the warm precision of a small team, and the constant presence of Spinalonga across the water.

Set directly on the shore between Elounda and Plaka, this luxury boutique hotel in Crete feels more like a private Cretan estate than a resort. Forty-seven rooms, suites, and a villa unfold through natural materials, original Greek artwork, soft Mediterranean colour, and views that return again and again to the Aegean. The result feels deeply residential — one of the most intimate collections of sea view suites in Crete for those prioritising atmosphere over scale.

Its character is intimate, rooted, and deeply local. Anthós brings contemporary Greek cuisine into a refined farm-to-table language. Blue Door keeps the spirit of the old fisherman’s house alive. The organic garden feeds both the kitchen and the Phāea Farmers Feast — one of the property’s most memorable rituals.

For those who want Crete to feel personal rather than presented, Phāea Blue is a rare choice: beachfront, boutique, artistic, and quietly emotional. Around this, our travel design and lifestyle approach gives the stay its rhythm: the right caique moment to Spinalonga, the right table at Anthós, the right garden evening at the Phāea Farmers Feast, the right private drive through Lasithi. Nothing feels arranged. Everything feels already understood.

Phāea Blue is for those who want Crete to feel close — not curated from a distance, but lived through the sea, the table, the art, and the people. Here, we design around intimacy: the right suite, the right caique crossing, the right garden dinner, and the kind of slow Cretan day that cannot be forced.

PHĀEA BLUE VILLA

290 M²
8 GUESTS
3 BEDROOMS

A private estate within an estate. Three bedrooms — a master with a four-poster bed and fireplace, two further bedrooms at the lower level each with ensuite bathrooms — arranged around an open-plan living space of rare and unhurried generosity. The private heated pool looks out over Spinalonga and the Aegean; the outdoor dining and barbecue terrace turns every meal into a scene.

A dedicated private chef and butler are included throughout the stay — not as amenities, but as the architecture of the experience itself.

Designer’s Insight: This is where we design eastern Crete at its most complete: private arrival directly to Elounda, a chef-led dinner shaped around the villa terrace, and a fully tailored version of our Mirabello Passage experience — Spinalonga by private caique, Agios Nikolaos at golden hour, and a final return to the villa as the bay turns dark blue.

From 3200€ / night

BLUE MAISONETTE SUITE PRIVATE HEATED POOL

67 M²
5 GUESTS
2 LEVELS

A bi-level suite designed for air, privacy, and connection with nature. White interiors, blue accents, Greek marble, original artwork, and an intimate garden create the feeling of a small summer house within the estate.

The heated private pool anchors the outdoor space, making this one of the strongest choices for those who want suite-level comfort with a more residential rhythm.

Designer’s Insight: This suite works beautifully for those wanting the intimacy of a boutique property without sacrificing space or flexibility. We usually shape the stay around slower experiences — a private olive oil tasting in the hills above Elounda, a late lunch at Blue Door after a morning at sea, and an evening that returns naturally to the heated pool.

From 820€ / night

Amenities: Private heated pool · Intimate garden · Two-level layout · Private terrace · Sea views · King-size bed with Simmons® mattress · Two enlarged marble bathrooms · Pull-out sofa bed · Sitting area · Nespresso machine · Tea offerings · In-room curated bar · In-room safe · Customised pillow menu · Yoga mats · B&O Bluetooth device · Two flat-screen TVs · Thoughtfully curated bath amenities

ISLAND SUITE SEAVIEW PRIVATE HEATED POOL

60 M²
4 GUESTS
1 BEDROOM

A suite built around indoor-outdoor living. Its private heated pool and expansive terrace pull the room toward the Aegean, while Spinalonga anchors the horizon with quiet authority.

Designer furnishings, original artwork by Greek artist Philippos Theodorides, local craftsmanship, and soft textures give the suite a layered, island-home atmosphere.

Designer’s Insight: For honeymoon stays, we build this category around emotional pacing rather than activity — breakfast served slowly on the terrace, a private caique crossing toward Spinalonga before sunset, and a wellness treatment timed for the quietest hour of the afternoon.

It is one of the most emotionally rewarding categories for couples seeking a luxury honeymoon hotel in Crete with privacy, sea views, and slower island rhythm.

BEACH & POOLS

Snami Travel

At Phāea Blue, the sea is never separate from the stay.

The pebble shore is reached in moments, with sun loungers, a pier for easy water access, and a beach bar close enough for the afternoon to feel completely unplanned. The water here carries Elounda’s particular clarity: still, deep, and often holding Spinalonga in reflection.

Across the estate, heated private pools in selected suites and the villa create a more intimate layer of water — private, garden-framed, and oriented toward the same Aegean view that defines the hotel.

The combination of direct beach access, heated private pools, and panoramic Spinalonga views makes Phāea Blue one of the most distinctive luxury beachfront hotels in Crete for couples, honeymoon stays, and slower Mediterranean travel.

Restaurants & Bars

ANTHÓS

Anthós brings contemporary Greek cuisine into a deeply rooted Cretan language. Executive Chef Giannis Kalivretakis works with seasonal produce from local farms and the hotel’s organic garden, shaping menus that feel elegant without losing their connection to the island. Breakfast unfolds slowly; dinner becomes the emotional centre of the evening.

BLUE DOOR TAVERNA

Set inside a former fisherman’s house directly by the water, Blue Door captures the slower spirit of coastal Crete through seafood, family recipes, and uncomplicated Greek cooking. Long lunches here tend to become part of the day rather than a pause within it.

VOTSALO BAR

Named after the smooth pebbles lining the shore below, Votsalo pairs botanical cocktails, local herbs, and sea-facing aperitivo culture with one of the most beautiful sunset perspectives in Elounda.

DESSERT BALCONY

Traditional Greek and Cretan sweets paired with an aperitif and views that make the pause feel almost ceremonial. It is the perfect soft ending to dinner — not too formal, not too sweet, just beautifully placed.

BEACH BAR

At Crete’s only beachfront boutique hotel, the Beach Bar becomes part of the shoreline itself — cold drinks, effortless lunches, and slow afternoons framed by the clarity of the Mirabello Gulf.

THE PHĀEA FARMERS FEAST

“Where the Meal Begins in the Earth.”

The Phāea Farmers Feast is one of the hotel’s most distinctive experiences. Set within the organic garden, it invites those who take part to harvest ingredients with a Phāea Farmer and Executive Chef Giannis Kalivretakis, cook with age-old Cretan methods, and gather around a communal table for the meal that follows.

It is farm-to-table in the truest sense — intimate, seasonal, and impossible to replicate elsewhere. We arrange the timing around the garden, the evening light, and the wider rhythm of the stay.

ART & CRAFTSMANSHIP

“Where Every Corner Holds a Story.”

Phāea Blue feels closer to a private art residence than a conventional luxury hotel. Original works by contemporary Greek artists, collectible furniture pieces, handcrafted details, and even an archaeological museum within the estate create an atmosphere where culture becomes part of daily life rather than decoration.

For those who travel through aesthetics, craftsmanship, and emotional design, the property rewards attention constantly.

Facilities

The Spa & Wellness Retreat

The spa experience at Phāea Blue is intentionally intimate — wellness shaped through sea views, curated gardens, movement sessions, and therapies connected to slower living rather than performance wellness.

Yoga, meditation, Pilates, hammam rituals, holistic treatments, and seasonal wellness retreats create a more personal rhythm around the stay. For longer stays, we usually coordinate treatments, movement sessions, and recovery time before arrival so the wellness flow feels naturally integrated from the first day onward.

The Caique & Sea Escapes

The traditional caique is one of Phāea Blue’s most personal signatures. From the hotel’s shore, Spinalonga sits almost impossibly close, while the Mirabello Gulf opens into cobalt water, hidden coves, and soft coastal light.

Through our sea-led travel design, the caique becomes the beginning of something larger. We pair it naturally with The Mirabello Passage — a private experience through Spinalonga, hidden coastal coves, Agios Nikolaos, local storytelling, and slower exploration across the Gulf. The day moves between sea, culture, and gastronomy without ever feeling segmented.

Art, Craftsmanship & Cultural Discovery

Cultural engagement begins inside the hotel — in the artwork, ceramics, and design language of each room. From there, the experience can extend into Crete’s deeper heritage.

A privately guided visit to Knossos with an archaeologist, an art-and-food walk in Agios Nikolaos, or a visit to local ceramic studios can be woven into the stay without breaking its calm. The hotel remains the intimate base; the island becomes the wider gallery.

Conscious Living & Local Connection

Phāea Blue’s conscious-living philosophy is visible through its organic garden, local producers, Greek artisanship, and deep relationship with Cretan food culture. The property’s scale makes this feel lived rather than corporate.

From our Taste & Tradition approach, the stay can expand through olive oil tastings near Elounda, Lasithi wine experiences, village kitchens, or private cooking sessions that connect the plate to the people behind it.

Location

Between Elounda and Plaka, Phāea Blue sits directly on the shore facing Spinalonga — one of the most evocative views in Crete.

Setting

The hotel occupies a beachfront position in Plaka, about three kilometres north of Elounda’s harbour. Plaka village is close enough to walk to, with whitewashed houses, flower-lined streets, and family-run tavernas that still feel local.

Elounda brings the marina, dining, and wider coastal life. Spinalonga holds the horizon. The Gulf of Mirabello gives the stay its light.

The setting is ideal for luxury travel in East Crete, especially for those looking for luxury travel experiences in Elounda, private Spinalonga tours, curated Mirabello Gulf experiences, and boutique sea-view stays connected to authentic Cretan culture.

Distances

  • Plaka Village — 5 min walk
  • Hotel Beach — direct access
  • Elounda Village & Marina — approx. 4 km / 10 min drive
  • Agios Nikolaos — approx. 12 km / 15 min drive
  • Spinalonga Island — 90 seconds by private speedboat
  • Heraklion International Airport — approx. 65–78 km / 1 hr–1 hr 15 min

The Curated Travel Design

This part of eastern Crete is best explored through sea, story, and timing.

A private speedboat from the hotel’s shore reaches Spinalonga almost immediately. With the right guide, the visit becomes more than a walk through ruins — it becomes a conversation with the island’s Venetian, Ottoman, and 20th-century history.

Knossos can be reached by private transfer in under an hour, ideally early in the morning with an archaeologist before the main crowds arrive. Agios Nikolaos, just south, offers a gentler half-day: lake, harbour, boutiques, and a reserved local table through our concierge network.

For longer itineraries, Phāea Blue works beautifully as the eastern anchor of a wider Crete journey — with private transfers west toward Heraklion, Rethymno, or Chania, and every transition shaped around pace rather than logistics.
